ok, I managed to sort out the errors by compiling a new kernel (but not installing)
After the kernel build, I was able to "make pci" to compile the hostap driver, it compiled without error
However when I "make install_pci" I get the below err...

Module installation directory not valid: '/lib/modules/2.4.18-3custom' Most probable cause for this is modified kernel headers. You will need to install module file (driver/modules/hostap_*.o) manually. make: *** [install_check] Error 1

Suggestion ?
