The best solution for supporting windows clients I've found/seen:
802.1x (not sure if hostap supports that...) pptp (poptop)
You'll want to look at the security issues with pptp, and ensure that having tunnels will work with your applications (network 'hoods that resolve via broadcast won't work; you'll need to setup a wins server).
Hope this helps; I know it doesn't answer your question, but it may give you some ideas... You can wrap whatever crypto you want inside of the ethernet frames. :)
