Not quite. It was removed from linux-wlan-ng because people weren't following instructions and were frying their cards.. and blaming AVS.
It's possible to completely screw up ones card by flashing the wrong firmware and/or PDA. And then there's always the possiblity that something could go wrong. (I've cooked a couple of USB widgets this way..)
Needless to say, flashing third-party firmware with a third-party flash tool will void your card's warranty.
But as mentioned elsewhere, prism2dl is obtainable if you search for it, and even the old versions work just fine against newer linux-wlan-ng releases. Or so I'm told. :)
