The bug in 1.4.2 causes the card to not reply Probe Request frames in Host AP mode. However, beacon frames are sent correctly. I have tested this only with Prism2 and Lucent cards as clients and these did not try to authenticate with the AP before receiving Probe Response. As far as I know, nothing in IEEE 802.11 requires this and Cisco cards are probably authenticating and associating based on the information available from the beacon frames.
