Signal level in dBm

Hi,

I am using HostAP from the OpenAP project, and I need the formulas (if they exist) to calculate the signal in dBm to each associated station. I don't have iwspy on the OpenAP box, and the only data that I collect comes from /proc/net/prism2/wlan/<station MAC address>: silence and signal. Is there a way to do that?
What is the meaning of the values silence and signal?
