Greetings everyone:

The problem was that the WLAN card picked (hostap initialization) up the default IP configuration of the NIC card. "route" was showing duplicate entries of wlan0 and eth0. Once I performed "ifconfig" with new IP parameters on wlan0, the eth0 interface started functioning normally.
