I can't get that driver to work at all for my Lucent WaveLan Gold cards. I have no choice but to use wvlan_cs for those. I also found out (the hard way, it seems) that trying to get ANYTHING else to talk to those cards in ad-hoc mode is futile (they'll talk to anything else in managed mode, at least).
As for the orinoco_cs driver and my NetGear cards - it does recognize the card, at least. But, as I described earlier, there is a shitload of transmit (or receive, depending on what side of the link you're on) errors. Apparently, this particular bug was fixed some time before 2.4.19 came out (around April, I think). However, since I have plans to try to bridge a vmware virtual machine on the laptop to the existing network, I should have been playing with the hostap driver from the start if I wanted any chance to do this. :)

I haven't had it work reliably yet - but then again, my hardware so far consists of: ancient WaveLan (before the Orinoco name change, firmware never updated - perhaps that's why those cards are such a pain in the ass...), and Prism2 (NetGear).
I haven't seen anyone answer my other question in this thread - Why don't ARP replies get sent out from the laptop in ad-hoc mode (even with the laptop using the hostap driver)? When using it in managed mode (with the gateway system functioning in HostAP mode), it works flawlessly.
