hostap confuses X11

Hi,

I'm just starting trying to use hostap, which seems to initialize pretty cleanly on this machine (Linux 2.4.19, SMP dual 400Mhz PIIs, XFree86 4.1.0.1, Matrox MGA G200)

kernel: hostap_plx: hostap_plx.c 0.0.0 2002-09-12 (SSH Communications Security Corp, Jouni Malinen)
kernel: hostap_plx: (c) Jouni Malinen <jkmaline_at_cc.hut.fi>
kernel: PLX9052 PCI/PCMCIA adapter: mem=0xdf800000, plx_io=0x0, irq=10, pccard_io=0xb000
kernel: hostap_plx: Registered netdevice wlan0
kernel: wlan0: NIC: id=0x8003 v1.0.0
kernel: wlan0: PRI: id=0x15 v0.3.0
kernel: wlan0: STA: id=0x1f v0.7.6

Only problem is that after hostap_plx is loaded, X will not work properly - the screensaver and DPMS screen powerdown appear to kick every couple of seconds. Waving the mouse furiously can keep the display alive. Disabling the screensaver etc makes things look a bit more normal, but timing is still very wrong - the key repeat rate is totally erratic, double-keys and pauses and so on.

Unloading hostap_plx and then restarting X doesn't fix the problem - it seems once hostap_plx has been loaded then X is irrevocably kaput.

Any suggestions how I could debug further?

Thanks

Anthony
