I had a similar problem with a RedHat installation. The machine would
freeze either under load or after some time. When I replaced the redhat
kernel with a clean compile from kernel.org, the problem went away.

Subject: Kernel freeze under heavy (transmit) load
Hi,
I have a following problem: under heavy load (e.g. ftp-ing linux-2.4.18.tar
file)
kernel freezes. Sometimes I can see message "wlan0:25 x 10 usec cleared
pending TX"
as last entry in syslog and sometimes "TX rate raised to 110" so I guess it
can
not really help. As this doesn't happen without using wireless card my wild
guess
is that hostap_pci is responsible for the lockup.
Anyone with similar experience?
Regards,
Ivo.
