fyi,
My older (functioning) cards had firmware 1.3.6 and the new ones (not functioning)have 1.4.2. One of those cards is soon on its way to Finland to get special treatment by Mr. HostAP himself... ;-) I actually don't know what the benefits are with the new firmware, but according to Philips it might solve some hanging problems and provide better XP support...
