You should note that there have been quite a bit of changes to hostapd.c since 2002-05-19 version so you might like to take a look at the CVS version of it. In addition, current version does not support shared key authentication, so if you are using WEP, this might cause problems in getting the stations authenticated (depending on whether they use open system or shared key).
